Map file converter: KML, Shapefile, DXF, GeoJSON, CSV
Choose a KML, KMZ, GeoJSON, zipped Shapefile, DXF or coordinate CSV file, pick the output format and download: the conversion runs on your device and the file never leaves the browser. For DXF, Shapefile and CSV output you can choose WGS-84, UTM or Vietnam's VN-2000 with any province's central meridian.
How to use it in 3 steps
- Choose or drop a map file; check the preview and coordinate system.
- Pick the output format and output coordinate system (VN-2000 province, WGS-84, UTM).
- Press Download to save the result.
What it reads and writes
Reads: KML, KMZ (points, lines, polygons, MultiGeometry, ExtendedData); GeoJSON; Shapefile as .zip or as .shp, .dbf, .prj, .cpg chosen together (UTF-8 or Windows-1258 attributes); DXF (POINT, LINE, LWPOLYLINE, POLYLINE, TEXT); CSV with X, Y or latitude, longitude columns. Writes: KML, KMZ, GeoJSON, zipped Shapefile with .prj, DXF R12 for any AutoCAD version, CSV for Excel.
In DXF, X is east and Y is north (CAD convention). Arcs, blocks and hatches are not converted and are reported.
Privacy and code
Files are read by JavaScript in your browser; nothing is uploaded. No third-party libraries are loaded: ZIP, Shapefile, DXF and KML handling is Vilac's own code using the browser's built-in CompressionStream. VN-2000 output uses the same tested code as the VN-2000 converter.
Frequently asked questions
How do I turn a Google Earth KML into a DXF for AutoCAD?
Choose the KML, set Convert to DXF, choose the output coordinate system (a VN-2000 province or UTM) and press Download. The drawing is in metres at the right position.
My DXF has no coordinate system. How is it placed?
DXF does not store one. If the numbers are metres, choose the province (VN-2000) or UTM zone under Coordinate system of the file; the preview and extent let you check the location.
Which Shapefile parts are needed?
At least .shp, .shx and .dbf; add .prj for the coordinate system and .cpg for the text encoding. Choose a .zip or the loose files together.
Are non-English attributes kept?
Yes. Shapefiles are written in UTF-8 with a .cpg file. Field names become ASCII of up to 10 characters, a DBF limit.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is only read in your browser.
